Air Liquide, Melbourne

Case study: High-voltage electrical and maintenance support for Air Liquide

About Air Liquide

Air Liquide is an international leader in gases, technologies and services for industry and health, employing approximately 66,000 people across 80 counties globally and serving 3.6+ million customers and patients. At their Melbourne facility, Air Liquide produces nitrogen, oxygen and argon. They are vital suppliers of gases to local hospitals and other large industries.

Project overview

Air Liquide contacted us when their Melbourne site electrician was due to retire. They needed a reliable, qualified, high-voltage electrical maintenance worker to manage on-site breakdowns efficiently. They also needed support for their upcoming high-voltage upgrade project work.

They selected Kottek as their project partner thanks to our industrial maintenance expertise and experience in high-voltage switching, coordination and access permits.

Solution

We began by creating a comprehensive customer service plan outlining how we would respond to Air Liquide’s unique electrical maintenance needs. This details Air Liquide’s technical requirements, our high-voltage work expertise, insurance and safety policies and commercial agreement terms. We also met with the retiring electrician, the maintenance manager and supervisor, the site leader, the electrical engineer and the procurement team to understand their specific context and requirements.

Satisfied with our proposal, Air Liquide signed off on a partnership. Since April 2019, we have matched Air Liquide with a high-voltage maintenance electrician with hazardous area certification to work on site four days per week. We also provide four electrical high-voltage switching operators on-call rotationally and any extra labour needed for shutdowns.

Results

Thanks to our ongoing support, Air Liquide is now assured that any breakdowns, downtime and preventative maintenance are managed safely, reliably and efficiently.

During the high-voltage equipment upgrade project, we collaborated with Air Liquide contractors, management and the engineering department to ensure that everything ran smoothly and successfully. This complex challenge included innovative measures to provide safe switching procedures for the site so that operators could still run the other plant while ensuring that clients received uninterrupted gas supply.

Do you need reliable electrical maintenance support for your Melbourne large manufacturing facility? Kottek’s experienced, qualified and reliable industrial maintenance workforce is here to help.
